On March 28, 2019, Times Higher Education, in collaboration with\u00a0Microsoft, released <a href=\"https:\/\/myapps.northcarolina.edu\/digitallearning\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/45\/2019\/04\/THE-Microsoft-AI-survey-article_published-March-2019.pdf\">survey results<\/a> associated with university leaders&#8217; and technology experts&#8217; predictions on the impact of 4IR on higher education. Their findings are summarized in the chart below.\u00a0<strong>Spoiler alert:<\/strong> The researchers found that &#8220;fears of robots lecturing to\u00a0ever-smaller cohorts of\u00a0 students do not compute&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Many knowledge nuggets were offered in this article, but the one that struck me the most was: &#8220;Last year, for instance, Darpa, the US\u00a0government\u2019s Defense Advanced Research\u00a0Projects Agency, pledged $2 billion to develop\u00a0next-generation AI systems capable of\u00a0\u201ccontextual reasoning\u201d. In my opinion, the amount of this pledge demonstrates the promise of AI and acknowledges one of the key challenges\/opportunities to advancing AI, contextual reasoning.
