Classes listed as Face-to-Face in ANY of the Exchanges are actually held via video conferencing. You can attend from your HOME campus.
The primary focus has been on the sharing of upper level <Language> classes each semester. We have offered a wide array of courses, ranging from literature classes, film, business<Language>, translation, and music. Most courses are taught in <Language>. We support the existing <Language> degree programs of our participating campuses, and with the resources of the Exchange, we have added two new degree programs in the state, the<Language> Studies major at NCSU and the<Language> Studies major at UNCW. With the German faculty from 8 UNC campuses, the Exchange constitutes the largest<Language> “department” in the country. The Exchange has organized spring break trips to Berlin, and students can explore the various summer programs organized by our faculty.
While we have offered online courses, the majority of our offerings have been through distance-learning classrooms linked by video and audio technology. We now have the capacity for students to link into these classes via their home computer.
Students interested in taking classes in the exchange should check with their advisor and the home campus department chair and review the information on the Guidelines page.
Guidelines
- Before registering for a course at another institution, students must see their advisor to ensure that the course they plan to take will meet specific requirements to transfer.
- After consulting with their advisors, students should consult with the chair of the department in which similar courses are housed on their HOME campus (e.g. the Chair of the German or Foreign Language department for a German class.
- Students will register for the course with the registrar on their home campus.
- Keeping in mind that the campuses may follow different academic calendars, students must check the calendars for ALL institutions from which they are taking classes to ensure they meet start and drop/add deadlines and are prepared for fall/spring break periods.
