Students Say...

I have benefited tremendously from the UNC Language program. Since enrolling in FLN 101-103 Elementary Hindi-Urdu with Nilakshi Ji (Dr. Nilakshi Phukan) in the fall 2018 semester and being currently enrolled in FLN 201-203 Intermediate Hindi-Urdu, my Hindi has improved drastically — and I contribute a lot of it to the accessibility of the virtual classroom dynamic. Not only does the virtual classroom mimic that of being in a physical classroom with other students, Nilakshi Ji’s pedagogy also creates a space of engaging and creative learning. I will continue to use the UNC Language program as I further in my graduate program at UNC Charlotte.

David Flaherty

M.A. Student, UNC Charlotte

I was a UNC exchange student for one academic year. During that year, I studied Arabic via a videoconference with Dr. Turner [at UNCW]. While it did take me a short while to adjust to the virtual classroom, I ended up absolutely loving it! I was able to strengthen my Arabic skills, practice those skills with other new learners, and learn more about the Arabic-speaking world as a whole. Although I’m no longer an exchange student, I continue to use what I was taught in my current Arabic classes at Boston University. Thanks to the program, I’m now more ahead than all of my other classmates!
