The Future Teachers of North Carolina (FTNC) program creates opportunities for high school students with strong academic, interpersonal, and leadership skills to enroll in college-level education courses in their respective high schools, to encourage teaching as a career pathway.

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS

The FTNC program consists of two rigorous, honors-level education courses that are taught by highly qualified high school teachers selected by the University of North Carolina System Office.  Students who are enrolled in FTNC courses are exposed to a challenging curriculum and enriching field experiences.  Additionally, the program helps to prepare high school students to tackle college course work, and encourage them to pursue a career within the field of education.  The program also offers the following:

  • Two elective courses offering three Career and Technical Education (CTE) credits
  • Aligns to CTE Education & Training career cluster and pathway initiative
  • Curriculum and artifacts aligned with the North Carolina Professional Teaching Standards
  • Training, curriculum, and resources for educators teaching FTNC courses, Teaching as a Profession I and/or Teaching as a Profession II
