Chancellors’ Cup Golf Tournament
Event Day
What to expect on tournament day, from check-in to the awarding of the Cup. Times for 2027 will be posted once the date and host campus are set.
The day at a glance
Each tournament follows the same basic rhythm. The host course and exact times change from year to year.
1
Check-in
Golfers check in, warm up on the putting green and driving range, and visit the Chancellors’ Cup Golf Shop.
2
Shotgun start
Teams tee off at the same time from holes across the course. A boxed lunch is provided during play, with snacks at tents along the way.
3
Reception
As play wraps up, golfers gather at the clubhouse for food and drink.
4
Awards
Results and prizes are announced, and the winning team takes home the Chancellors’ Cup.
Format
Captain’s choice
Teams of four play a captain’s choice format. Every player tees off on each hole, the team picks the best shot, and everyone plays the next shot from that spot until the ball is holed.
Teams with three players rotate who takes the fourth shot. If teams tie, the better score on the lowest-handicap hole breaks the tie, moving to the next-lowest hole until there is a winner.
Contests and prizes
Contests are included with registration. Specific holes and prizes are set each year with the host course and sponsors.
Skills contests
- Closest to the pin on par 3s
- Longest drive, men and women
- Longest putt holed
Hole-in-one contests
Designated par 3s carry hole-in-one prizes, with the top prize shared between the player and the Janet B. Royster Memorial Staff Scholarship Fund.
Team awards
The first-place team displays the Chancellors’ Cup on its campus for a year and receives a permanent campus trophy. The top three teams receive prizes.
