Today, Tuesday, Sept. 19, is National Voter Registration Day! If you are planning to vote on Election Day in the upcoming municipal elections, you must be registered to vote by Friday, Oct. 13, 2023.
You have options to register to vote in North Carolina:
- You can access voter registration resources online through the North Carolina State Board of Elections.
- You can register to vote online, by mail and in person as a North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles customer.
- You can register in-person when you go to vote during the early voting period.
If you mail your registration form, please remember to postmark it no later than the deadline of Friday, Oct. 13, 2023.
One-stop early voting in North Carolina begins Thursday, Oct. 19, 2023, and ends Saturday, Nov. 4, 2023. You may register to vote and vote in-person at the same time during this period; however, you may not vote on Election Day if you are not registered by Oct. 13.
Voter ID
Beginning this year, voters in North Carolina will be asked to present photo identification to vote, though certain exceptions apply. System Office staff who have a physical UNC OneCard may use that card as a voter ID. For more information about what other forms of identification are accepted, visit the voter ID page on the North Carolina State Board of Elections website.
If you have questions about your residency or voter registration generally, visit the North Carolina State Board of Elections website.
