The Office of State Human Resources is accepting participants for their Advanced Skills for Managers (ASM) Program scheduled for May-June 2026. This cohort will take place in New Bern to reach employees on the eastern side of the state. Registration is open now, and registration instructions are available here.
The Advanced Skills for Managers (ASM) Program is a leadership development program for mid-level managers with at least one year of experience in their current role and who meet the following criteria:
- Indirect manager – supervise other supervisors
- Manager of professionals OR
- State-wide Program manager with diverse stakeholders
ASM completion requires attendance at all three two-day in person sessions plus pre-work, homework, knowledge checks, final exam, and a final assignment.
ASM applications are processed when we receive approvals from both the supervisor and budget officer listed in the application by the applicant. Once the budget officer approves funding for the registration fee ($450), the budget officer receives a second email notification to provide the name and email address for the person at the agency who should receive and will pay the invoice once received and prior to the participant’s first day of class. Once all approvals and the invoice recipient information are received, the applicant will receive an email with enrollment information based on availability at that time.
Please note, former ASM applicants must reapply in each application cycle with a new application and approvals.
It is strongly recommended that interested applicants be prepared to apply when applications open as seats fill quickly. Once an applicant submits their application, they should contact their supervisor and budget officer, to alert them of the automated email notification and streamline the approval process. ASM applicants are processed on a first-approved basis.
