About UNC System Office

The UNC System Office is the administrative hub of the statewide University of North Carolina System. Our 500 employees are focused on our mission of providing an excellent and affordable education for students, providing public service that benefits North Carolina, and supporting the System’s 48,000 faculty and staff.

The divisions housed within the UNC System Office provide a comprehensive array of operational services. This work guides University-wide leadership in the areas of academic affairs, business and financial management, long-range planning, human resources, legal affairs, and external relations. System Office staff also incorporates the team at North Carolina’s only statewide public media network, PBS North Carolina, as well as the North Carolina State Education Assistance Authority, which promotes access to education by administering financial aid and savings programs, informing students and families about paying for education, teaching educators about financial aid administration, and advocating for resources to support students.

Reimagining our Workplace at the System Office

As System Office leadership began to plan for a return from working at home during the COVID-19 pandemic, we realized we had a singular opportunity to reimagine what our workplace could look like for the future and to take advantage of the flexibility we had adapted to since March 2020.

With this in mind, our work environment offers three types of flexible arrangements — fully on-site, fully remote, and a combination of on-site and remote, based on the responsibilities of each position. As part of this effort, we have consolidated our main System Office staff onto two floors of The Dillon, in downtown Raleigh’s Warehouse District. The office features modern hoteling and collaboration spaces for staff to use when on-site, and parking is free for System Office staff.

We are excited to build this new environment for our team and provide even more opportunities for flexibility and staff well-being.
