As allowed by Governor Cooper’s recent Executive Order #257 (“Establishing an Incentive Program to Encourage State Employees to Receive Their COVID-19 Booster Shot”), President Hans has authorized the chancellors of the UNC constituent institutions, as well as System Office, to provide the COVID-19 booster shot incentive leave program, following the rules provided in the executive order and the corresponding Office of State Human Resources policy.

Booster leave provides eight hours of paid leave for all System Office staff who receive their first COVID-19 booster shot any time before Aug. 31, 2022. This includes probationary, time-limited and permanent employees; part-time employees receive a pro-rated amount of leave. Second booster shots are not eligible for leave.

This leave can be used for any purpose but must be used by March 31, 2023, and cannot be paid out, carried over, or transferred.

Receiving a booster shot is entirely voluntary and employees are not required to participate in this program.

To use booster leave, please seek approval from your manager and complete the attestation form on the HR website at https://myapps.northcarolina.edu/hr/covid-data/. Then send an email to Trivia Johnson at tkjohnson@northcarolina.edu with the date you would like to use booster leave so the code can be manually applied in TIM. Falsifying information in the attestation form may result in disciplinary action up to and including dismissal.

If you have questions about this request or need assistance, please contact System Office HR.
