At the end of August, there were a total of 1,161 active JCATs available for use by University employees. Of those, 648 had been assigned to an EHRA Non-Faculty A-grade salary range or were assigned a grade of N (negotiable). The balance of 513 JCATs are presently under review for alignment with the Exempt Professional Staff salary grade system. The System Office HR and Operational Policy teams aim to have all non-academic and non-athletic JCATs assigned to an appropriate base range by the end of 2025. We may assess previously submitted requests for new JCATs or modifiers when feasible, but we cannot guarantee that these requests will be evaluated prior to the end of 2025. We will assess any remaining requests along with campus-based athletics ranges, faculty ranges, and the majority of academic leadership JCATs in the first half of 2026.

You can expect updates forthcoming in October, November, and December with several dozen JCATs under assessment each month. HRIS contacts will continue to receive their regular monthly update from Suzanne Crockett around the 14th of each month with any JCAT structure and other HR Data Mart updates. As always, these items should be updated in your ERP or other internal systems prior to submitting your monthly HR data uploads. A revised JCAT / Salary Grade Matrix will be shared via the final HR Council Digest email each month and will be available for download from the Class and Comp section of the System Office HR website.

As part of this effort, JCATs are also being assessed for potential elimination. In most cases, a JCAT will only be identified for sunsetting if it is not or has not been used for an extended period, if there are logical alternatives already available, and/or if newly expanded alternatives will be created through this process. A list of JCATs that are currently slated to be eliminated will be shared later this month, along with the revised JCAT / Salary Grade Matrix. Items scheduled for elimination should be phased out over the next 6-9 months, with a sunset date of June 30, 2026.
