The Board of Governors approved the Paid Parental Leave plan during their meeting today. This program will provide eight weeks of fully paid parental leave to eligible employees who have given birth to a child, and four weeks of paid leave for non-birth parents in circumstances involving the birth of a child, as well as the adoption, foster placement, or other legal placement of a child with an eligible state employee.

Attached is a letter from Interim President Roper to all UNC System employees regarding this new leave program. Please distribute to your institution’s employees. The UNC System Office also sent out a press release announcing the new program earlier today.

We are very pleased to be able to move forward with this program, and appreciate the efforts that your staff and other UNC System organizations have provided in advocating for this kind of benefit.

As discussed previously with the HR Council, please plan to implement this benefit on your campus no earlier than January 1, 2020, and no later than March 31, 2020. We are in the process of completing policy/regulation language to reflect the new program as well as updating an FAQ document for your use and will share this information with you soon. If you have questions in the meantime, please do not hesitate to reach out to Ashley Nicklis or Chris Chiron.
