How do I get into the Executive Leadership Institute?
Upon request, each UNC System institution or affiliate submits up to two nominations for the program each year. Nominations are reviewed by the ELI Program Director and selection decisions will be made to ensure broad and diverse representation, including having at least a third of the participants from HMSIs.
How many people will be accepted for this program?
The target number of participants for each cohort is 24.
Who is the target audience for the program?
Ideal candidates will have an undergraduate degree with graduate/advanced degree preferred. Candidates should also demonstrate senior-level management or upper-level administrative/academic experience. Individuals must be in a current role that includes people management/direct reports. This means that nominees would typically have the following in their title: Associate/Assistant/Senior Dean, Provost, Vice President, Vice Chancellor or Executive Director.
What kind of financial support does the System provide for the program?
The System Office will cover the costs of program design, delivery, and materials. Each participant’s home university is expected to cover a program registration fee of $1,200 per person, as well as the costs for meals not provided during the program modules, travel expenses, and lodging.
What are the expectations of participants other than attendance at the three modules?
- Cohorts are split into three or four smaller teams or pods to facilitate learning and apply new skills/concepts before and after each module. This provides participants with valuable collaboration opportunities and hands-on experience working with a team in a learning lab format.
- Participants are expected to serve as mentors for future participants.
- ELI participants are also assigned an executive coach. Coaches are credentialed by the International Coach Federation and have experience working with senior executives. The Program Director assists with facilitation of the coaching component to ensure each participant gets the most out of the experience.
What ongoing support will be offered after completing the program?
ELI will provide opportunities for participants to build ongoing networks and partnership among those in their cohort. In addition, we will identify potential mentors with whom participants can choose to connect.
