During the month of April – National Volunteer Month – we encourage all employees to lend their time and talents to a cause of your choice, to organize a work team or group to volunteer or to participate in a System Office-organized event. It’s an opportunity to support and serve a cause that inspires us.

As part of this effort, we are organizing System Office Volunteer Week (April 23-29, 2023) as an opportunity for our staff to recognize the power and impact of volunteering in our community. It’s also an opportunity for us to come together to tackle society’s challenges, build stronger communities, and become a united force to transform our community.

During the week of April 23-29, System Office will be supporting InterAct of Wake County’s ongoing awareness poster campaign. InterAct is dedicated to ending the cycle of domestic and sexual violence in Wake County by saving and rebuilding lives and securing safer futures for victims, survivors, and their families. To participate, staff can simply distribute awareness posters to Wake County businesses, doctors’ offices, restaurants, nail, and hair salons, etc., and record those locations in a group document. Posters and talking points for business owners/managers are available. For more information or to participate, email Kathy Bryant.

Whether you volunteer for the InterAct poster campaign or an organization of your choice, remember that you can use Community Service Leave to cover your time if you are volunteering in a school or approved non-partisan, non-profit organization.

We want to showcase your efforts in the weekly HR Update, so please share your stories and pictures to SystemHR@northcarolina.edu.
