Round of Applause: Shweta Kautia

Shweta came to my rescue in a big way last week. When I broke a link between two systems, she dropped everything she was doing and jumped in to troubleshoot. After consulting team members and vendors, she continued working on it long after the rest of us called it a day. She ultimately figured it out (late that night) and got us back in working order, ready for the day! I can’t thank her enough!

Round of Applause: Tio Jones

Amidst the efforts to support our western North Carolina campuses, we needed to develop some complex IT solutions with short notice. Tio was incredibly responsive and persistent and not only prioritized my request, but helped to come up with a solution that benefited our response efforts in this situation that will also be extremely valuable for any future critical incidents that warrant a mutual aid response. I’m very grateful for Tio’s knowledge, care, and extra efforts with this issue!

Round of Applause: Ashton Clemmons

In just one month, Ashton has jumped in as our Educator Prep teams worked through a number of important initiatives. Ashton has displayed impressive balance between listening and leading in such a short amount of time. I look forward to continuing to learn from and with Ashton, as I am thankful for her leadership and mentorship!

Round of Applause: Catherine Kurilla

Catherine is a wonderful colleague with tremendous patience and kindness. She has provided steady support to the military affairs team over several years. Alongside her data analytics/EDO colleagues, Catherine has been a critical partner in understanding and refining our complex datasets around UNC System military affiliated students. Catherine currently is supporting data needs for the UNC Military Equivalency System (MES), including as a key contributor to our pilot project with the American Council on Education. Her keen eye and willingness to dig deep into the nature and meaning of our various datasets is helping us to evolve our approaches to improving and expanding the MES, and more broadly to improving outcomes for our 22,000 and growing military affiliated student population. Catherine takes the time to explore, educate, and collaborate with our team every step of the way. Because of Catherine and other EDO/D&A colleagues, we have come a long way from where we started when we began tracking military affiliated students in 2016!

Round of Applause: Daniel Sater

Daniel provided a “better mouse-trap” when I was working to use data from one spreadsheet to provide expenditure numbers on another. His Excel expertise provided a much simpler solution than I had considered and will allow us to routinely update capital project expenditure information in an automated way. A big improvement over our previous slow, laborious, manual look-up process, and all I did was ask a question! Thank you Daniel!

Round of Applause: Jack Ware

Jack has been very helpful making sure I had access to all my work files while working remote. He not only answered my questions and helped make sure I was connected, he proactively reached out to me to make sure that I was not having any problems. Due to his help and planning for this situation, I had no issues! I appreciate his kindness and customer service to go above and beyond!

Round of Applause: Ulisa Bowles

A parent of a rising high school senior called the front desk with questions about the changes made in the May 2024 BOG meeting. She shared that her child will be graduating from early college in Greensboro in spring 2025 and she wasn’t sure if her daughter would be considered a rising freshman or a transfer student. Ulisa called the parent and explained the changes. During the call she learned more about the daughter’s interest in 3 of our campuses. Ulisa connected the student with the three campuses and helped her make connections at each institution. The mother shared the following: “Thank you for taking the time to speak to me in the car and this morning for your kind email. Every word and advice you have given to us will not be taken lightly.”

Kudos to Ulisa for taking the time to talk with this family and helping connect the student with her top schools!

When new issues are experienced, she is thoughtful in tackling a solution, troubleshooting in real time.
