On August 6, 2018, UNC System Human Resources issued the institutional guidelines for administering the 2018 annual raise process for SHRA and EHRA employees. This is the first time that increases for SHRA employees have been applied through an annual raise process (ARP), which is the regular annual practice for EHRA salary increases.
- Eligible SHRA employees receive a 2% salary increase on their June 30, 2018 base salary, and may, but are not required to, receive up to an additional 2.99% discretionary increase depending on their performance and available funds.
- Eligible EHRA non-faculty employees may, but are required to, receive a discretionary increase up to 4.99% increase depending on their performance and available funds.
- Eligible EHRA faculty may receive a discretionary increase of up to 4.99% based on demonstrated meritorious performance in teaching, service, publication, and/or research productivity.
The SHRA 2% increase should be completed by September 30, 2018, and any other SHRA or EHRA discretionary increases should be completed by October 31, 2018. All increases will be retroactive to July 1, 2018.
The new minimum state salary ($31,200 annually, or $15/hour) is effective July 1, 2018. The state budget bill requires that the annual raise process be completed before the minimum salary increase can be applied, so affected employees may not see this change in their paychecks until November. (The increase will be retroactive to July 1.) The new minimum applies only to permanent positions; temporary employees may be paid less than $15/hour.
