As you know, shortly after we launched the Adverse Weather and Emergency Events policy in January 2016, interim president Junius Gonzales issued a memo in February 2016 setting the requirement that constituent institutions must request use of Condition 3 through the UNC System Office to ensure consistency with State requirements. Over the past several years, we have seen some recurring confusion about the policy given that the language in the interim president’s memo did not align with the policy as written.

The Office of State Human Resources has approved technical changes to the University Adverse Weather and Emergency Event Policy (effective 10-01-2019) that aligns with the requirements of the February 2016 memo. In addition, last week Interim President Roper approved a new regulation in the UNC Policy Manual that replaces the memo.

**Please note that these revisions do not change our current requirements for Adverse Weather and Emergency Events – these revisions are only codifying current practice. **
