The Insight platform is constantly being enhanced with capabilities that are released when ready. Several campuses were interested in more closely monitoring the SDM Validation Results through dashboards, as well as merging the Academic Program Inventory (API) data with other UNC or campus data to visualize insights. Both datasets are available now in Insight. You can read more about the source tables and update frequency by opening the Insight Data – Contents and Refresh Summary, and searching for “validation_results” and “api_programs”, respectively.
During the Insight monthly call with campuses on January 10, 2020, Ruben Villasmil and Harold Thomas described how each have used the SDM Validation Results effectively. Their campuses saw better data quality and timeliness through improved campus reporting and resolution of data validation errors and warnings. They created reports and workflows to share validation warnings and errors among data owners and stewards and their supporting business analysts and IT staff throughout campus, and request and track timely resolution. As many of you know, better insights from data analytics efforts depend on better data upstream, and these campus reports and workflows catch and resolve data from campus ERP and other business systems farther upstream, and faster.
