In order to apply a security related patch to Tableau, the Insight Tableau dashboards will be unavailable beginning at 9PM ET tonight, January 29. The outage is expected to last one hour or less.

The Redshift database and related local campus access through ODBC via ad hoc query tools or BI tools will not be impacted, and will remain operational.

More details on the outage: Tableau has identified an issue that affects Chrome users browsing embedded visualizations outside the server’s domain. Some UNC campuses do this, embedding Insight visualizations from insight.northcarolina.edu in local campus web site domains (outside of the northcarolina.edu domain). In this scenario, Chrome browsers would be blocked. Tableau have released a patch (click link for more info on the patch) to address this issue, which will be installed at 9PM, followed by an Insight Tableau server restart. The outage should last at most one hour long.

If after the outage you experience any Insight Tableau issues, especially related to this specific issue, please email insight@northcarolina.edu to open a ticket.

Thanks for your understanding, The Insight Team
