What is happening? The Insight team will be performing maintenance on the IPEDS tables and views in the third_party_data schema. The goal of this effort is to correct data types that should have been numeric but were originally coded as character fields. The goal is to make the IPEDS data sets more usable by allowing the data to be easily aggregated without having to convert data types.
Also, the provisional 2020-2021 Fall Survey component group data will also be released. See rows 2 through 4 of the IPEDS release schedule for details.
What is the impact? The IPEDS tables and views will be rebuilt with the new data types. Any campus level views on the IPEDS data sets will need to be dropped and recreated. If users have custom data pulls or custom queries that rely on the data types, those will also need to be readjusted. Please contact Insight support if you have any questions or concerns.
When is it happening? The change will be complete by the end of January.
How can I test? For those who are interested in testing, we can provide a third_party_data_qat where you can compare the structures against the old structures.
Where can I find additional information? Please refer to the meeting notes and replays for the 1/14/2022, 12/10/2021 and 11/12/2021 monthly Insight community calls.
Enjoy these data, and as always, your questions, and feedback are welcome via email to insight@northcarolina.edu.
