Each year, the Staff Assembly honors outstanding service and leadership and helps staff grow through professional development scholarships.
Staff service award
Erskine B. Bowles Staff Service Award
Honors a staff member whose accomplishments reflect the goals of the University and its public service mission. Any university employee can nominate a colleague.
Leadership award
Thomas W. Ross Sr. Visionary Leader Award
Celebrates a current or recent Staff Assembly delegate who leads with vision on their campus and across the Staff Assembly.
Professional development scholarship
Janet B. Royster Memorial Staff Scholarship
Helps permanent, full-time, non-faculty staff pay for degrees, certifications, conferences and training. 186 scholarships awarded since 2011.

Support staff scholarships
Gifts to the Janet B. Royster Memorial Staff Scholarship Fund and proceeds from the annual Chancellors’ Cup golf tournament help staff across all 17 UNC System institutions keep learning and growing.
