HR Professional Networks

UNC System Human Resources offers a variety of professional networks to provide updates on HR topics, receive input on policies and procedures, and share best practices. Membership is open to the staff of the central HR office at each UNC institution and to others as approved by UNC System HR. Click below for details on each network.

HR Council

  • Network Manager: Matthew Brody (VP for Human Resources)
  • Membership:
    • The Chief Human Resources Officer of each UNC constituent institution
    • The Chief Human Resources Officer’s deputy
    • The Academic Human Resources lead (when separate from central HR)
    • UNC System Office HR & Legal Affairs staff
    • Additional members may be approved by the VP for Human Resources
  • Meetings: 
    • Quarterly all-day in-person meetings in Chapel Hill (generally Feb, May, Aug, Nov)
    • Monthly conference calls (generally second Wednesday of each month, 3-3:45 p.m.)

Benefits Network

  • Network Manager: Ashley Nicklis (Benefits)
  • Membership: UNC constituent institution HR professionals who perform benefits and/or leave administration roles
  • Meetings: Generally two in-person meetings per year and monthly conference calls

  • Network Manager: Jessica Moore (Classification and Compensation)
  • Membership: UNC constituent institution HR professionals who perform position classification and/or salary administration roles

Employee Relations Network

  • Network Manager: Chris Chiron (Employee Engagement & Equal Opportunity)
  • Membership: UNC constituent institution HR professionals who perform employee relations roles (disciplinary process, grievance process, investigations, performance management)
  • Meetings: 
    • Generally one in-person meeting per year
    • Monthly conference calls (First Tuesdays 10-11 a.m.)
    • Performance management professionals may also receive targeted emails

Talent Acquisition Network

  • Network Manager: Lynn Duffy (Talent Acquisition and Leadership Development)
  • Membership: UNC constituent institution HR Professionals who perform recruitment, hiring, and onboarding (I-9, etc.) roles
  • Meetings: Generally one in-person meeting per year and quarterly conference calls

Engagement Network

  • Network Manager: Kathy Bryant (Equity, Engagement, and Employee Relations)
  • Membership:
    • Each UNC constituent institution designates individuals to serve on the Engagement Steering Committee
    • The primary contact is designated by the Chief HR Officer and is a representative of the human resources unit who is directly responsible for the managing the engagement survey at their institution
    • The secondary contacts designated by the CHRO can be another HR employee or someone from elsewhere in the institution (for example, institutional research) who is significantly involved in administering the engagement survey
  • Meetings: 
    • Conference calls (generally Wednesdays 3-4 p.m.)
    • Frequency varies throughout the year from weekly to monthly depending on the cycle of the engagement survey

Equal Opportunity Officers Network

    • UNC constituent institution HR professionals who oversee the EEO/ADA operations and their deputies

Recognition Program Coordinator Network

  • Membership: UNC constituent institution HR professionals who coordinate campus-wide recognition programs, specifically for state service awards, the Caswell Award, and the Governor’s Award

RIF Administration Network

  • Network Manager: Chris Chiron (Equity, Engagement, and Employee Relations)
  • Membership: UNC constituent institution HR professionals who perform reduction-in-force roles (e.g., RIF plan reviews, RIF reemployment priority placement, severance payments)
  • Meetings: This group does not have standing meetings but may receive group-specific communications
